Sigma Theta Tau inducts 90 membersThe Delta Alpha Chapter At Large of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society inducted 90 members, 60 from the Health Science Center and 30 from University of Incarnate Word School of Nursing, on Dec. 16.
This international nursing honor society is the most prestigious nursing honor society in the world.
Inductees must be in the top 25% of their graduating classes or be nursing community leaders. Sigma Theta Tau International is affiliated with many other international nursing honor societies in Canada, Europe, Australia, South America, and Asia. Members of this society are the present nurse leaders who mentor new inductees to become the nursing leaders of tomorrow.
Pharmacology receives SURF grantThe department of pharmacology has been awarded a three-year grant through the Institutional Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. Students compete annually for fellowships that support research training in participating pharmacology departments throughout the United States with up to five students spending the summer conducting research at the Health Science Center.
The SURF Program accepts applications annually from institutions that wish to participate in this training program. The most recent application, submitted by Veronica Sprayberry, graduate coordinator in the department of pharmacology, was cited as 'top ranking' with the Health Science Center training program being designated a Dalton-Zannoni SURF Program. This designation is accompanied by three years of continued support for undergraduate research fellowships in the department of pharmacology.
