More than $2,000 collected for tsunami relief fund

A total of $2,015.25 was collected by the Special Events Council (SEC) from the Indian Food Lunch event on Jan. 31, which benefited the tsunami relief efforts through the American Red Cross.

Approximately 170 plates were sold and additional funds were collected from Health Science Center personnel who only wanted to make a donation. The SEC thanks everyone for their generosity and support. Veena Prasad, senior research associate in the department of biochemistry, organized this event and brought it to the attention of the SEC and the Health Science Center community.

The SEC would like to thank all the volunteers who made this event possible: Marcia Isaacs, academic informatics services, San Juanita Astorga, accounting, Mary Duarte, accounting, Judith Aurelio, computing resources, Angela Robinson, biochemistry, Jameela Banu, medicine, Anjana Chandrasehekar, biochemistry, Asok Banerjee, Ph.D., biochemistry, Bina Prakash, nursing, Rajam Ramamurthy, M.D., pediatrics, Anna Uriegas, biochemistry, Patrick Joe, biochemistry, Larry Barnes, Ph.D., biochemistry, John Garza, biochemistry, Shalini Narayana, Research Imaging Center, Heather Carreon, computing resources, Sigrid Long, computing resources, Janice Smith, graduate dean, and Mary Yanes, computing resources.
