Special guest, Charles D’Ambrosio, fiction writer and essayist, has been invited and two of his short stories will be the subject of the discussion. His prestigious stories have been published in The New Yorker and included in Best American Short Stories. For reading prior to the meeting, the short stories have been posted at

Pharmacology graduate students receive travel awardsThe department of pharmacology is pleased to announce that graduate students Corina Petre and Raj Sevak have received prestigious travel awards and will present their work to various colleagues.
Petre will present her poster “Noradrenergic facilitation of shock-probe defensive burying in lateral septum,” at the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ENCP) Workshop on Neuropsychopharmacology for Young Scientists. This year’s workshop will focus on the topics of molecular neuropsychopharmacology, behavioral pharmacology, clinical neuropsychopharmacology and depression, and will take place in Nice, France on March 3-6. Petre is the only young scientist in the United States to have received this travel award this year.
Sevak received a travel award from the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) for his poster “Streptozotocin-included diabetes differentially modifies haloperidol- and GHB-induced catalepsy.” He has the opportunity to present his poster at the Experimental Biology 2005 Meeting in San Diego, Calif.

Stronger nursing connections suggested by the State of Mexico Governmental officials from the State of Mexico visited the Health Science Center last week to speak with Robin Froman, dean of the nursing school, about creating a stronger connection between nurses in San Antonio and nurses in the State of Mexico. Spurs tickets available The Special Events Council will offer San Antonio Spurs tickets for the regular season 2004-2005 to all Health Science Center faculty, staff and students.
