Beesley retires after 26 years of service February marks the last month of employment at the Health Science Center for Jerry Lynn Beesley, office manager in the University Police Department, after 26 years of service.
Beesley has worked for University Police for the past six years. She started in accounting in 1979 and has lent her expertise to various departments, and worked in both the School of Medicine and School of Nursing.
Although she will miss her colleagues, she said spending more time with her grandchildren and traveling are among the things she has always wanted to have the time to do.
“My husband and I just bought a new house so I plan on spending a lot of time doing yard work,” she said. “I also want to improve my golf game.”
While Beesley spends time to herself, her enthusiasm and quick wit will be missed at the Health Science Center.
Chief of Police, Robert Bratten, says Beesley should be commended for her dedication to her job.
"She is very, very good at what she does," he said. "She will definitely be missed."
Prominent ophthalmologist coming to Health Science CenterThe Health Science Center and the San Antonio Low Vision Club welcome Lylas Mogk, M.D., co-author of the book "Macular Degeneration: The Complete Guide to Saving and Maximizing Your Sight", to present a special program on Saturday, Feb. 26.
The San Antonio Low Vision Club will host the program on macular degeneration beginning at 10 a.m. at the Health Science Center main auditorium.
Dr. Mogk is a practicing ophthalmologist and founding director of the Visual Rehabilitation and Research Center of Michigan. She will be visiting the Health Science Center to speak to the public and present principals from her book.
Bonnie Truax, president of the San Antonio Low Vision Club, says Dr. Mogk’s book reaches out to vision-impaired individuals in a basic and comprehensive manner.
“Dr. Mogk tells different ways to cope with your eye disease and gives specific examples of how to maximize even the small visual usage that you have,” Truax said.
