The Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies is seeking pilot grant proposals in the area of basic biological gerontology. Funds of up to $50,000 are available to launch a study through the Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in Basic Biology of Aging, a component of the Barshop Institute, for Health Science Center faculty members with a novel or innovative idea for a research project in aging.
The goal of the program is to promote research in the basic biology of aging by encouraging young, talented scientists to pursue a career in aging. Twenty-two projects have been awarded in the past five years, totaling $658,538. The program offers more than funding; mentorship and key core services to assist recipients in their research project are available as well.
Grant awards are competitive and proposals will be peer-reviewed. Preferential consideration for awards will be given to junior faculty in the beginning of their research careers and to established investigators who are new to the field of gerontology and geriatrics.
The deadline for application is March 14. For complete details, click on
