REMINDER: Surgeon General to speak Feb. 24

Vice Admiral Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S, the 17th Surgeon General of the United States, will present the keynote address at The Southwest Research Consortium of San Antonio. The conference is from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., Feb. 24 in Room 3.102B in the Lecture Hall. The theme of this year’s conference is “Obesity in the Hispanic Population.”

Guest speakers for the conference include Anthony Comuzzie, Ph.D., scientist at the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, Ralph DeFronzo, M.D., professor of medicine and chief of the division of diabetes at the Health Science Center, and Rebecca Reeves, Ph.D., assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, and president-elect of the American Dietetic Association.

The Consortium was established in 1974 to encourage joint research and education programs and activities among member institutions.

The current Consortium member institutions are the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, Southwest Research Institute, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, The University of Texas at San Antonio, Brooke Army Medical Center, Wilford Hall Medical Center, 311th Human Systems Wing of the Brooks City Base, St. Mary’s University, Trinity University and The Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veteran’s Hospital.

Continuing Medical Education credit is available.
