International Bank of Commerce (IBC) demonstrated its support for premature infants when it donated funding raised through its 2004 Christmas drive to the PREMIEre program at the Health Science Center and University Hospital.
Three members of the Employee Advisory Board at IBC and the senior vice president of IBC, Keith Daniels, presented a check to the PREMIEre program at University Hospital. Rajam Ramamurthy, M.D., professor of pediatrics and medical director of the PREMIEre program, accepted the check on behalf of the PREMIEre program.
“We are grateful that we have support from our friends at IBC,” Dr. Ramamurthy said. “Every contribution makes a difference in a child’s life and we thank the IBC employees for including the PREMIEre program in their annual Christmas drive.”

Members of the Employee Advisory Board at IBC who attended the check presentation were given a tour of the children’s specialty clinic on the fifth floor of University Hospital. While learning more about different aspects of the program, they saw a sweet ceremony during which 3-year-old triplets received their PREMIEre graduation certificates.
“Dr. Ramamurthy and PREMIEre made a lasting impression at IBC,” said Faith Madrigal, member of the Employee Advisory Board. “One of our employees had a premature infant who received care, but subsequently died.”
PREMIEre is a follow-up program for high-risk infants weighing less than 3 pounds, 9 ounces at birth. It offers specialized services such as developmental testing and comprehensive neurological exams. Children also are linked with early childhood intervention services that provide physical, occupational and speech therapy.
Steven R. Seidner, M.D., professor of pediatrics and chief of the division of neonatology; Carolyn McLerran, coordinator of the PREMIEre program and Wanda Daniels, R.N., also attended the check presentation and are appreciative of the support from IBC.
