On Mar. 11, Theresa Chiang, Ed.D., associate vice president for academic affairs and executive director for student services, will present to Kenneth Shine, M.D., executive vice chancellor for health affairs for The University of Texas System, the results of a compact made last year. The compact outlines short- and long-term strategies to achieve the goals of each department at the Health Science Center.
The compact – a commitment to provide benchmarks for activity and to document progress in every area – was made between each of the presidents of the 15 components of the U.T. System and Dr. Shine in May 2004. The compact’s goal is to provide greater accountability for the performance of the U.T. System.
“The chancellor requested that each department gather faculty, staff and students to discuss their missions and how they plan on reaching their goals – both short- and long-term,” Dr. Chiang said. “As a follow-up, Dr. Shine plans to meet someone from each of the U.T. System components between March and May for a progress report of the compact made in 2004. I’m happy to give him a good, successful report.”
Under the direction of Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., president of the Health Science Center, with updates from all campus administrative units, Dr. Chiang will present Dr. Shine with highlights from several departments and discuss changes and additions for the 2005 compact, which will be submitted this summer.
