Kenneth Shine, M.D., executive vice chancellor for health affairs for The University of Texas System, visited the Health Science Center on March 11 to meet with several deans and vice presidents to discuss topics such as recruiting and maintaining outstanding faculty. He also reviewed progress on the 2004 Compact. The 2004 Compact is a written commitment the Health Science Center made with Chancellor Mark Yudof last year to provide benchmarks for activity and to document progress in every area.
Among several presentations under the direction of Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., president of the Health Science Center, Theresa Chiang, Ed.D., presented the 2004 Compact to Dr. Shine with highlights from several departments.
“He was looking to see if we are making changes due to our priorities and direction,” Dr. Chiang said. “Dr. Shine stressed how important it is to review and follow the Compact.”
All U.T. System components, both health-related and general academic institutions, made Compacts with the chancellor. They were created as guidelines to follow in order to make long- and short-term goals successful.
Dr. Chiang said Dr. Shine was impressed with the status of the departments of the Health Science Center and is interested in seeing more successful updates in the 2005 Compact next year.
