Christopher Bracken, M.D., Ph.D., professor and director of clinical services in the department of anesthesiology, has been appointed as interim chair of the department of anesthesiology. He succeeds Joseph Naples, M.D., professor and chair of the department of anesthesiology, who has accepted a new position as chairman of anesthesiology at Methodist Hospital in Houston.
Dr. Bracken received his M.S. and Ph.D. from Texas A&M University at College Station. In 1984 he received an M.D. from the Health Science Center, where he also completed his residency and fellowship.
Since 1987, Dr. Bracken has held several positions and responsibilities in the anesthesiology department, including cardiothoracic fellow and instructor, assistant professor, associate professor and professor.
“The department’s strengths are very clear,” Dr. Bracken said. “Dr. Naples has done an excellent job of gathering a team of dedicated and caring anesthesiologists who have been recognized in several venues.”
The Health Science Center extends its thanks to Dr. Naples for his dedication and hard work, and welcomes Dr. Bracken to his new role.
“We want to continue the delivery of excellent anesthetic care,” Dr. Bracken said. “There is a strong sense of family within the department of anesthesiology. That makes all things possible.”
