Overview: Office of the Vice President for ResearchBrian Herman, Ph.D., vice president for research and professor of cellular and structural biology, presented an overview of research activities at the Health Science Center. His overview included descriptions of the responsibilities and activities provided by his office, thematic areas of research supported by the Health Science Center, research partnerships involving the Health Science Center and other topics of interest to the research community.
Overview: Office of Technology VenturesAlan Dean, director of the office of technology ventures, presented an overview of the goals of his office as related to enhancing opportunities for invention disclosure and to increasing income that would benefit both inventors and the University. His overview included descriptions of the responsibilities and activities of his office involving business development and commercialization of inventions, overseeing specialized legal agreements, guaranteeing compliance with all government requirements, and maintaining and managing a database containing invention-related matters.
Chair’s Update: Keith Krolick, Ph.D., chair of the Faculty Senate, presented topics of concern to the senators. These included: 1) Status of Senate Bylaws revisions; 2) Report on Ombudsman recommendation forwarded to Dr. Cigarroa; 3) Report on the March 2-3 meeting of the University of Texas Faculty Advisory Council.
