Kenneth Kalkwarf, D.D.S., M.S., dean of the Dental School, was voted president-elect of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) at the 82nd Annual Session held March 5-9 in Baltimore. Dr. Kalkwarf will serve as president-elect for a year before becoming ADEA president for 2006-2007.
“I am honored and humbled by the nomination to be the next president-elect of the ADEA,” Dr. Kalkwarf said. “I enthusiastically accept the nomination and look forward to working with ADEA members as we address the challenges of today and the future.”
Dr. Kalkwarf began working at the Health Science Center in 1986, serving as associate dean for advanced education. In 1987 he was named dean of the Dental School. In addition, he maintains a part-time private practice position in periodontics at the dental faculty practice clinic. He is the principal author of more than 150 articles, chapters and abstracts published in professional journals. His leadership has played an important role in the Dental School’s research excellence.
Dr. Kalkwarf joined the ADEA in 1975 and has served on the ADEA Council of Deans and the ADA/ADEA Liaison Committee on Surveys and Reports. He was named by ADEA to the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations and the Commission on Dental Accreditation and served as chair of both groups.
“I am proud of this organization and the impact that it has had on dental education and the profession of dentistry,” Dr. Kalkwarf said.
