Gerald Dodd III, M.D., professor and chairman of the radiology department, was recently elected to the prestigious position of president of the Texas Radiological Society (TRS). He began his term on April 3 at the 92nd Annual Scientific Meeting, held at The Westin La Cantera Resort in San Antonio.

Dr. Dodd is the Stewart R. Reuter Distinguished Chair and a Fellow of the American College of Radiology who received an M.D. from The University of Texas at Houston in 1983. Among many recognitions, he is a Fellow of the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound and Fellow of the Society of Computed Body Tomography and Magnetic Resonance. Dr. Dodd is the recipient of the Roscoe E. Miller Award of the Society of Gastrointestinal Radiologists, the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Magna Cum Laude Award from the 87th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting, and the RSNA Summa Cum Laude and Excellence in Design Award.

As the oldest state radiological society in North America, the TRS has a long history of serving the interests of all radiologists in Texas. It is the second largest state chapter of the American College of Radiology, working with the College Council to promote and support the practice of radiology in the United States.

Dr. Dodd is now responsible for overseeing all aspects of these activities.

“I am honored and pleased to be able to serve as the president of the TRS,” Dr. Dodd said. “I pledge that I will work diligently to foster the mission of the society.”

Dr. Dodd joined both the Health Science Center and the TRS in 1994, and is proud of the growth and success of the department of radiology at the Health Science Center.

“Radiology is one of the most dynamic fields of the practice of medicine,” he said. “As a practicing interventional radiologist and abdominal imager, I am delighted to be able to provide the highest quality care to the patients of South Texas.”
