The Health Science Center School of Nursing and its Nursing Advisory Council invite the public to celebrate National Nurses Week at an upcoming luncheon and health seminar.

The event, which is $40 per person, will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at Oak Hills Country Club, 5403 Fredericksburg Rd. It starts with free health screenings by School of Nursing students at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon.

As the meal continues, Bexar County Judge Nelson W. Wolff will present a National Nurses Week proclamation from the county. Robin Ford Dillard, RN, BSN, MBA, senior director of clinical staff and community development for the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of South Texas, will follow with a talk titled “Your Health, Your Life, Your Voice: Understanding Hospice and Alternative Care Options.”

The seminar will offer a positive look at the facts to consider when choosing health care options, assessing available services and resources, and planning in advance.

The public is asked to RSVP in advance to (210) 567-3833 or lunaj2@uthscsa.edu.

The School of Nursing is educating tomorrow’s leaders in the nursing profession, including nursing educators to alleviate today’s shortage of nurses. Many of the School of Nursing’s thousands of graduates continue to practice in South Texas.

Platinum Sponsors of the event are the Herrmann Family Foundation, former Texas Gov. Dolph Briscoe Jr. and the San Antonio Express-News. The Gold Sponsor is the Cancer Therapy and Research Center. The Silver Sponsors are the Beldon Roofing Co., Frost Bank and Mission Pharmacal. Bronze Sponsors are the San Antonio Federal Credit Union, the School of Nursing Dean’s Office, Crossvault Capital Management Investment Advisors and Barbara Wulfe.
