The department of medicine will highlight clinical and basic medical research at its Eighth Annual Research Day. The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 10.
This year’s distinguished speaker is Helen H. Hobbs, M.D., investigator for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and professor of internal medicine and molecular genetics at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Dr. Hobbs will present
Genetic Protection Against Cholesterol Accumulation and Atherosclerosis at 4 p.m. in the Medical building, Room 409L.
“We are very enthusiastic about this year’s Medicine Research Day,” said Robert A. Clark, M.D., professor and Dan F. Parman Distinguished Chairman of Medicine. “I am proud of our young faculty and trainees for the excellent work they are doing across the full spectrum of basic and clinical research. This event provides a wonderful venue to highlight their accomplishments for the entire Health Science Center community. Dr. Helen Hobbs is a superb physician-scientist who has made important contributions in the area of genetic disorders of lipids and cardiovascular disease. May 10 promises to be an exciting day for us all.”
Research Day will also feature a panel discussion,
The Impact of Ethnicity in Human Disease, and poster and oral presentations from faculty, fellows, medical residents and students. Select oral presentations will be from 1 to 2 p.m. in Room 209L. A poster display will be set up from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the auditorium foyer. Awards will be presented for the best presentations in each of these categories.
