It is estimated that 220,000 American’s died last year of sudden cardiac arrest, according to the American Red Cross. That is one person almost every two minutes, and many of them could have been saved if someone around them could perform effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
The Health Science Center has coordinated and co-sponsored the 15th Annual CPR Training Day that will occur from 8 a.m. to noon on May 7. It will take place at the Alamodome and free parking will be available in Lot C.
The whole family can benefit from the free information and instructions about CPR from volunteer instructors in the community and the military bases. Those who wish to renew their CPR cards can do so for $5.
In conjunction with CPR Day, the city of San Antonio issued a proclamation supporting CPR Day and the importance of knowing CPR and the abdominal thrust maneuver.
