H. Randall Goldsmith, Ph.D, president and CEO of the San Antonio Technology Accelerator Initiative (SATAI) Network and an expert in technology commercialization and local capital formation, has been named assistant vice president of technology transfer and economic development, effective June 1. Dr. Goldsmith will report to Brian Herman, Ph.D., vice president for research.

“We are delighted that Dr. Goldsmith will be working with us to advance our strengths in technology commercialization and to grow our presence and impact throughout the state of Texas,” Dr. Herman said. “His skills fit uniquely with our economic development plans for the Health Science Center.”

Dr. Goldsmith will be responsible for oversight, supervision, management and coordination of technology commercialization and economic development activities within the office of the vice president for research. “My abilities and passion revolve around building organizations,” Dr. Goldsmith said. “I am excited about what the future holds for The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the opportunity to help grow our biomedical sector.”

As president and CEO of the SATAI Network, Dr. Goldsmith created an Expertise Services Program, Capital Network and Service Provider Group within the first four months of operations. He helped clients secure more than $22 million in private equity financing and developed a strategy for leveraging San Antonio military assets and capabilities for technology-based homeland security applications.

Dr. Goldsmith recently received the Outstanding Service Award from the Mid-Continent Federal Lab Consortium and serves on a variety of local, state and national boards of directors. He holds doctoral and master’s degrees in urban and regional planning from Texas A&M University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hardin-Simmons University.
