Diane E. Thomas was named director of internal audit after serving as interim director since 2004. Her position as permanent director began in March.
Thomas received a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting in 1989 and a Master of Business Administration in 2003 from The University of Texas at San Antonio. Thomas joined the Health Science Center in 1999. She is a Certified Public Accountant with strong skills in progressive accounting and auditing, managing various staffs, and preparing financial statements, budgets and government reports.
“Diane’s strong management skills and professional experience have made her the best-qualified candidate for the position of director of internal audit,” said Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., president of the Health Science Center. “She has done an excellent job as interim director and I am confident that she will continue the tradition of success in the internal audit department.” Thomas reports to President Cigarroa.
Among many duties as internal audit director, Thomas directs the performance and scheduling of audits including planning, fieldwork and reporting of findings and recommendations; develops an annual audit plan based on risk assessment of the university; and reports the functions of the internal audit office to the president and the audit committee through written audit reports of findings, recommendations, opinions and conclusions.
“I’m very excited to be named permanent director,” Thomas said. “I enjoy my job because every day I come to work and learn something new and different. Our office gets to see such a wide variety of activities. We have some very talented and dedicated auditors and I’m glad we have a good relationship with the rest of the campus community.”
