Pediatric department’s 12th Annual Research Day is May 24

The department of pediatrics will celebrate its 12th Annual Research Day May 24 and selected research projects will be showcased throughout the day.

Oral presentations will take place in Room 409L from noon to 4:15 p.m. and posters will be available for viewing from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the lecture hall foyer.

Pediatric residents, graduate students, and postdoctoral and research fellows will compete for cash prizes for their presentations and posters.

The Medical Hispanic Center of Excellence (MHCOE) honors Drew Sanderson, fourth year medical student, for his excellence in tutoring first- and second- year medical students. He has been named the 2004-2005 Tutor of the Year.

The MHCOE Tutoring program selects one outstanding tutor each year based on nominations from other students. The tutoring service is offered to first- and second- year students to help reduce the percentage of repeating classes or dismissal from the program. Tutors are required to complete a training session and must have received and A in the course in which they are tutoring.

Sanderson was selected for his dedication to and love for teaching. He was awarded $500 and a certificate from Martha Medrano, M.D., M.P.H., director of the Medical Hispanic Center of Excellence and assistant dean of continuing medical education.



Blood drive to take place May 17-19

Do you want to contribute to saving lives? The Health Science Center is providing you with the opportunity to donate blood during the annual blood drive.

The Human Resources Office encourages all faculty, staff and students to donate blood May 17-19 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
