The American College of Radiology (ACR) inducted Wayne A. Wiatrowski, Ph.D., associate professor of radiology, as a fellow of the ACR, one of the highest honors of the premier national organization for radiologists, radiation oncologists, international radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists. He was honored at a formal convocation ceremony on April 10, during the ACR’s 82nd Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.
Although all ACR members are expected to maintain high standards, Dr. Wiatrowski is among the preeminent physicists as a fellow of the college. Only 10 percent of the 32,000 ACR members are selected as fellows, and Dr. Wiatrowski was one of only three physicists inducted at the convocation ceremony.
“It is a great honor to be selected as part of such an elite group,” Dr. Wiatrowski said. “I feel especially fortunate because very few physicists become fellows of this distinguished organization.”
Nominees are considered based on service to organized medicine; significant accomplishments in scientific or clinical research in the fields of radiology, radiation oncology or medical physics; exemplary performance as a teacher; and outstanding reputation among colleagues and the local community.
Dr. Wiatrowski joined the Health Science Center in 1980, shortly after obtaining a doctorate in radiological physics from the Health Science Center. He is board certified in both diagnostic and therapeutic radiological physics and is a member of many distinguished organizations, including the American Physical Society, Health Physicists Society, American Association of Physicists in Medicine and the Texas Radiological Society.
