Award-winning physician and educator Rajam S. Ramamurthy, M.D., professor of pediatrics and medical director of Premature Infant Development (PREMIEre) Program, will be recognized at the Association for Women in Communications (AWC) Headliner Awards program. Dr. Ramamurthy will receive the Harriet Ross Individual Achievement Award for her achievements and inspiration to others June 2, at a dinner that will also honor other leaders for outstanding professional, volunteer and civic achievements.
Dr. Ramamurthy has inspired many individuals throughout the medical community and beyond as the first president of the Bexar County Medical Society in 2004, and one of the founders of the Arathi School of Indian Dance in 1981.
She has been on the faculty of the Health Science Center for more than 28 years. She completed her residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in neonatology at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Ramamurthy pioneered efforts to teach neonatal resuscitation in San Antonio and South Texas and is the recipient of numerous teaching and community service awards, including the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching.
The Harriet Ross Individual Achievement Award is named for a late AWC member who was a journalist and an avid community volunteer.
