The Friends of the P.I. Nixon Medical Historical Library celebrates its 35th year in the fall and is proud to announce a student essay competition as a part of the celebration.
Emilio F. Romero, M.D., past president of the Friends and professor in the department of psychiatry, has provided the funds for the prize named in honor of his father.

The Emilio J. Romero, M.D., Prize will be awarded to a San Antonio student who submits the best essay as judged by the Awards Committee. Competition is open to students living and studying in San Antonio, including undergraduate and graduate students, residents and postdoctoral fellows. Unpublished essays will be accepted in broad areas related to the history of medicine. The essay must be between 2,000 and 2,500 words and the deadline is Oct. 1.
Students working on interdisciplinary topics are encouraged to apply. The Romero Prize will be awarded at the Friends Annual Dinner on Nov. 14.
