The department of family and community medicine will give away free helmets to children who participate in the bike rodeo this year during the Health Science Center’s annual Fourth of July celebration. Helmets will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis at the celebration on June 24, between 8 and 11 a.m.

“Hard Hats for Little Heads” is a program designed to help Texas children prevent head injuries and promote safety while bicycling, in-line skating, skateboarding, and scooter riding. The program is sponsored in part by the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, Texas Medical Association Foundation and a grant from Prudential Financial.

Ashok Kumar, M.D., F.R.C.S., professor of family and community medicine, is coordinating the event with the U.T. Police. For more information about the free-helmet giveaway, contact Dr. Kumar: kumark2@uthscsa.edu.

Fourth of July Picnic is June 24
