The generous members of Knights of Columbus Council 4140 recently sponsored a spaghetti dinner and silent auction with all proceeds donated to the PREMIEre program at the Health Science Center. More than $10,000 was raised.

The PREMIEre program ensures continuity of medical care during the first three years of life for premature infants who weigh less than 3.5 pounds (1,500 grams) at birth. This coordinated care helps babies with such small beginnings to realize their greatest expectations.

More than 500 people attended the spaghetti dinner and silent auction, which featured 150 items. The event also included the entertainment of guitarist Galo Gutierrez and a “kids’ corner” area for the children in attendance.

A beautiful commemorative booklet detailed the PREMIEre program and the story of how the Knights of Columbus came to assist the program. Generous donors were recognized in the booklet.

Rajam Ramamurthy, M.D., medical director of the PREMIEre program, praised the Knights of Columbus and their families for their hard work and generosity in supporting the program. She introduced a couple whose niece weighed 2 pounds at birth.

Those in attendance included Mrs. Graciela Cigarroa, J.D., chair of the PREMIEre program community advisory board; Steven Seidner, M.D., chief, division of neonatology at the Health Science Center; Jim Young, Knights of Columbus benefit facilitator; Rafael Galaviz, D.D.S., Knights of Columbus event co-chair; and Tom Kaples, event co-chair.

Kudos to the Knights of Columbus Council 4140.
