Anne Garner, Ph.D., R.N., assistant professor in the department of acute nursing care, and dedicated mother, wife, sister and friend, passed away at home June 20 at the age of 62.
Dr. Garner received a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degree from Texas Women’s University. She joined the Health Science Center in 1994 as an instructor of clinical nursing and was later inducted into the International Nursing Honor Society, Sigma Theta Tau. She served as president of the local chapter Delta Alpha from 1999 to 2000. Dr. Garner was also a member of the American Nurses Association and American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Dr. Garner is described as a reliable, generous, hard-working and intelligent individual.
“She had such a broad depth of experience and knowledge,” said Nancy Girard, Ph.D., R.N., associate professor and chairman of the department of acute nursing care. “We will all miss her greatly. She was a friend and a member of our nursing family.”
Dr. Garner is survived by her husband, Gene; her sister, Janelle; her children, James and his wife Nicole, and Kathy and her husband Bill; and five grandchildren Paul, Zoe, Daniel, Rachel and Brett. Her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren.
