As attendees enjoyed lunch provided by Bill Miller Bar-B-Q and ate Blue Bell ice cream, they were entertained by Ernest, DJMasquerade. The San Antonio Fire Department also attended the celebration to demonstrate fire equipment and safety.
The children’s bike rodeo, sponsored by the Office of Student Life and UT Police, was held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the department of family and community medicine sponsored a free helmet giveaway for the first 100 registrants. It was part of a program called “Hard Hats for Little Heads,” a program designed to help Texas children prevent head injuries and promote safety while bicycling, in-line skating, skateboarding, and scooter riding. The program is sponsored in part by the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, Texas Medical Association Foundation and a grant from Prudential Financial.
