Congratulations to Sergio Alvarado, M.D., clinical instructor in the department of anesthesiology, for receiving the 2005 Pfizer Scholars in Pain Management Grant. Dr. Alvarado was nominated by Somayaji Ramamurthy, M.D., professor of anesthesiology, for his important contributions to research and patient care in pain management.
Dr. Alvarado received a plaque and a $1,000 grant from Pfizer Inc., awarded to the anesthesiology department. It will support career development of junior faculty.
“Dr. Alvarado is an exemplary physician with deep knowledge and superb technical skills," Dr. Ramamurthy said. “He is very deserving of this award.”
Dr. Alvarado has a five-year history at the Health Science Center. He received his M.D. in 2000, completed his anesthesiology residency from 2000-2004 and was a Fellow in Pain Medicine in 2004-2005. On July 12, Dr. Alvarado starts a new role as an assistant professor of anesthesiology and will continue to contribute his unique skills to the Health Science Center.
