The academic informatics services department recently held a six-week course that was designed to provide health professions educators with a system for managing the performance and development of learners. Fifteen faculty members completed the course that ended Aug. 23.

This course was organized around the GO FAR process of performance management: Goal Setting, Observation, Feedback, Appraisal, Reinforcement and Coaching. It combines goal-setting, observations, feedback, assessment and reinforcement to correct performance problems. Specific guidelines addressed tailoring the performance management process to the developmental needs of the individual or team of learners. The course was a combination of both didactic and interactive activities.
