During this year’s State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC), the Special Events Council (SEC) will donate 100 percent of its annual Acadiana Luncheon profits to the American Red Cross to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims.
“The SEC is deeply sorrowed by this devastation and wants to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina,” said Mary Yanes, SEC chair. “We’ve decided to donate all of our Acadiana Luncheon profits to the Red Cross, and hope that we have success that is similar to our effort earlier this year when we donated more than $2000 to the Red Cross for the tsunami victims. We want to help in any way possible.”
The Acadiana Luncheon is scheduled for Sept. 22-23 at the Texas Research Park and central campus. The $10 tickets can be purchased through each department’s SECC coordinator Aug. 30 – Sept. 16.
The central campus luncheon will take place Friday, Sept. 23 between Garage B and the Dental School; and this year, lunches will be taken to the Texas Research Park employees Sept. 22 so they have a more convenient way to participate.
Both luncheons will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Last year, more than $700 was raised.
If you are unable to attend the luncheon, you can still donate. SEC members will be accepting the donations from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Lounge, Sept. 6 and Sept. 13.
