The Health Science Center announces the appointment of two new investigators to the faculty of the Children’s Cancer Research Institute (CCRI).

Vivienne Rebel, M.D., Ph.D., arriving in November, will focus her research program on molecular mechanisms that govern hematopoietic stem cell regulation, said CCRI Director Sharon B. Murphy, M.D. Dr. Rebel, who received her M.D. and Ph.D. from the Free University in Amsterdam and the Terry Fox Laboratory in Vancouver, comes to the CCRI from Harvard Medical School and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Yuzuru Shiio, M.D., Ph.D., arrived in July and is studying global protein changes underlying cancer. He came to the CCRI from the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle. Dr. Shiio received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Tokyo. He completed fellowship training at the University of Tokyo and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center before becoming senior scientist at the Institute for Systems Biology. His research at CCRI is directed toward understanding the function of the Myc-Max-Mad/Mnt regulatory network using a combination of systematic quantitative proteomic analysis and molecular biology methodologies.

With these latest faculty recruits, the number of investigators at CCRI now totals nine. Recruitment is continuing, Dr. Murphy said.
