The Faculty Senate held its first meeting of the 2005-2006 academic year Sept. 14, welcoming Margaret Brackley, Ph.D., R.N., professor of family nursing, as the new chair. The Senate also presented Janet Williams, M.D., professor of pediatrics, with the Senate’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Leadership.
Throughout her 18 years at the Health Science Center, Dr. Williams’ involvement in numerous activities has fostered faculty development and productivity. She has been instrumental in creating workshops and other activities designed to support faculty that seek promotion and tenure, and has held various prominent positions in campus organizations. She previously served on the Faculty Senate while she continued to pursue her interests in faculty development. Dr. Williams often plays leadership roles in associations that focus on career development by women. She chaired both the Women’s Faculty Association and the Health Science Center’s Committee on Women and Minorities.
“Dr. Williams is clearly concerned with the training and development of our future physicians,” said Keith Krolick, Ph.D., past-chair of the Senate. “She is an exceptional teacher, having organized and implemented many teaching efforts in the department of pediatrics. Her efforts resulted in several teaching awards, including the prestigious Presidential Award for Teaching Excellence.”
Recently, Dr. Williams was selected to serve as the co-director of leadership for the Health Science Center’s National Center of Excellence on Women’s Health.
