The Special Events Council raised more than $1,700 from its annual Acadiana Luncheon fundraiser, selling a record-breaking amount of more than 400 plates. The profits will be donated to the American Red Cross through the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC). The SEC chose to donate the proceeds to the American Red Cross this year to benefit survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

“We want to give a special thanks to our 2005 SECC coordinators,” said Mary Yanes, SEC chair. “And, we appreciate everyone who helped contribute to this fundraiser.”

Eleven SECC coordinators won prizes for selling the Acadiana Luncheon tickets.

Recipients and prizes included:

• Noemi Gonzales, dental clinic – a pair of Spurs pre-season tickets

• Lea Harlow, physiology – Martha's dinner for two

• Veronica Mansanarez, PA studies – Martha's dinner for two
