11th ERM workshop is Nov. 16

The 2005 Education Research Methods (ERM) course, sponsored by the education research and development division of academic informatics services, presents its 11th workshop, “Approaches to Data Analysis in Educational Research – Part 2.”

This is a continuation of the statistical framework discussed in the October ERM session. This course will focus primarily on multiple regression, discriminative analysis and multivariate analysis of variance. The workshop will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Nov. 16, in Room 4.484T in the Dental School.

For faculty members who attend all 12 ERM sessions, a letter of completion will be sent to their department chair and participants will receive a course completion certificate.

Campus Updates:

Theresa Chiang, Ed.D., vice president for academic administration, provided the Senate with an update on various searches at the Health Science Center, as well as preparations for both the new strategic planning effort and the upcoming SACS accreditation visit.

Overview: Oct. 6-7 Meeting of the U.T. System Faculty Advisory Council

Margaret Brackley, Ph.D., chair of the Health Science Center Faculty Senate, described some of the responsibilities and activities currently going on at the U.T. Faculty Advisory Council (FAC). Minutes of this and past meetings of the FAC, as well as other useful information, can be found on the U.T. FAC website: www.utsystem.edu/utfac/.

Committee Report: Faculty Governance

Mickey Parsons, Ph.D., chair of the faculty governance committee, reported that her committee would be engaged in the evaluation of mechanisms available to the Senate for providing input into H.O.P. policies of importance to the faculty.



Program to enhance knowledge of clinical trials

Gain a basic understanding of clinical trials in the field of oncology, including how the trials work, why they are important to improving cancer treatments and saving lives, and how your safety is protected.

“Trials & Triumphs: People Helping Progress Through Cancer Clinical Trials” will take place Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Health Science Center auditorium.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and a continental breakfast will be served.

This event is sponsored by the San Antonio Cancer Institute, the Cancer Therapy & Research Center, Ortho Biotech and Clinical Trials Task Force.
