Congratulations to Marcel Noujeim, D.D.S., third-year graduate student at the Health Science Center, for receiving the 2005 Howard R. Raper Award.
The award, presented by the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, recognizes a promising graduate student who has excelled in oral and maxillofacial radiology training, and intends to pursue a career in academia. The student must be nominated by their program director.
Dr. Noujeim was nominated by Robert Langlais, D.D.S., M.S., director of the dental diagnostic graduate program.
“Dr. Noujeim’s dedication and achievements make him very deserving of this award,” Dr. Langlais said. “We are proud to work with him and to call him one of our residents.”
Dr. Noujeim’s achievements include a nomination for Best Poster Presentation in the 15th Congress of the International Association of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology in Cape Town, South Africa, and a pending United States patent for inventing a “Referenced Fiducial Marker for Registration of Data.”
“This technology allows dental radiologists to subtract cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images of a specific region taken at different time intervals,” Dr. Langlais said. “The subtracted images display only differences, some not visible to the eye, between the two images.”
Dr. Noujeim was presented with a check and a certificate of excellence for the Harper Raper Award. The monetary award will assist him with his academic pursuits.
