Health Science Center Vice President for Research Brian Herman, Ph.D., will host the second in a series of meetings initiated to provide discussion about issues pertaining to the research enterprise of the Health Science Center. The second Town Hall meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 2, from 4 to 5 p.m. in Room 3.102B.

The meetings are open to all interested faculty and staff.

Feb. 2 topics include discussion of a “Draft Research Space Allocation Policy” and a new bridge funding program that will provide temporary funding for previously-funded National Institutes of Health investigators awaiting renewal of their competitive application.

“The Town Hall meeting provides an opportunity for the faculty and staff to hear and provide feedback about new initiatives that are being contemplated by the institution to enhance the productivity and accountability of the research enterprise,” Dr. Herman said.

The first Town Hall meeting was held in November 2005, and involved a presentation on F&A, or indirect costs, and how the Health Science Center is reinvesting indirect costs in support of institutional research activities.

All faculty and staff are encouraged to attend the meetings and topic suggestions for future Town Hall meetings are invited.

Reorganization of the San Antonio Cancer Institute, the Research Tower, establishing a Clinical Research Office, restructuring the operations of the office of technology ventures and changes to enhance the research administrative infrastructure are among future topics planned for these Town Hall meetings.

Join colleagues to learn more about evolving research endeavors at the Health Science Center.
