President Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., recently selected the individuals who will serve on the 2006-2007 Committee on Committees (COC). The COC is one of the Health Science Center’s 27 committees that convene to help develop our campus. The 2006-2007 members’ appointments are effective Feb. 1.

“I am pleased to appoint you as members to this committee that is extremely important to the Health Science Center,” Dr. Cigarroa said.

Congratulations to the following members:

• Maharaj K. Ticku, Ph.D., professor of pharmacology
• Jan M. Wilson, Ed.D., assistant dean for administration

Dr. Pamela Larsen will serve as the chair of the 2006-2007 COC.

Claudia Miller, M.D., professor of family and community medicine, is the 2005-2006 chair and noted that participation in campus committees is strongly considered when a faculty member is applying for promotion or tenure.

“The COC is well-balanced in seniority, ethnicity and gender,” Dr. Miller said. “We want a wide variety of individuals and we’re always on the lookout for committee members.”

The COC consists of two representatives from each of the five schools, the past-chair, an at-large staff member and the vice president for academic administration. Among many things, the COC is charged with communicating information and suggestions between each committee and Dr. Cigarroa. The representatives are also responsible for filling vacancies on the Health Science Center standing committees that the COC oversees, after approval from the president.

The COC nomination and election process began Nov. 1 and ran through Dec. 20. Faculty nominations to individual committees begin Feb. 1.
