Congratulations to Rajam Ramamurthy, M.D., clinical professor and the William and Rita Head Distinguished Chair in the department of pediatrics, who was recognized for her dedication to performing community service.

Dr. Ramamurthy received the Community Service Award from the Alamo Asian Chamber of Commerce (AACC) at its annual meeting. Awards were given in two categories, including an award for a business for community involvement and another for an individual for services to the San Antonio community.

The AACC was formed in 2004 under the dynamic leadership of members of the Asian Community of San Antonio.

“My message at the gathering was that the Asian community must get involved in the mainstream of the city’s life,” she said. “Among its members, the AACC has entrepreneurs, leading scientists and educators, and others with outstanding leadership skills who can help shape the future of San Antonio.”

The office of student life showed their support Friday for the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Go Red For Women campaign, and women who have been affected by heart complications or stroke.

Go Red For Women is a nationwide movement to empower women to love and save their hearts through lifestyle choices and actions. The AHA each year generously donates millions of dollars to institutions conducting cardiovascular research, which includes the Health Science Center. By wearing red on Feb. 3, National Wear Red Day, millions of Americans helped support the ongoing research and education regarding heart disease.
