For 28 years, William (Bill) Hendricson has played significant roles in the Health Science Center’s division of educational research and development (ERD). After an extensive career in educational research and teaching, Hendricson will retire Feb. 17.
Following his 23-year position as an educational development specialist in ERD, in 2001 he was named director and has made major advancements to the division.
Hendricson serves as the director of several teaching method courses, including The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Teaching Excellence Course (UTEC). A tradition at the Health Science Center, UTEC is a 26-hour professional development program. It is believed to be the longest continuously-run teaching enhancement course at any United States health science center.
“It has been a thrill to work with Bill,” said David Henzi, Ed.D., education development specialist. “His passion for educational research and teaching is seen in the many faculty development sessions he conducts on campus and through other workshops throughout the country. Bill's dedication and hard work has proved indispensable to the division of educational research and development.”
Hendricson received his Master of Science in communication science in 1972, and his Master of Arts in urban and social policy in 1973. Throughout his career, he has conducted more than 1,000 workshops and retreats for professional groups, and has written and produced 250 training videotapes including interactive computer-video projects and bilingual productions.
“His sense of humor and Texas Longhorn pride will be missed,” Dr. Henzi said. “But everyone in ERD wishes him nothing but success in his future endeavors.”
