Having problems affording prescription medicines? If you are like millions of other Americans who need assistance paying for medications, the “Help is Here Express” might help solve your problems.

The Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA), a growing national program to help patients access prescription medicines, will be on campus Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 10 a.m. to noon with the “Help is Here Express” bus – an education center traveling across the country to raise awareness and boost enrollment in patient assistance programs. The bus will be parked on the circle in front of the Medical School building and Academic and Administration Building.

It is estimated that seven out of 10 individuals who inquire about the PPA program can find some sort of assistance.

“Since the national launch of the PPA seven months ago, we have helped more than one million people,” said Billy Tauzin, president and CEO of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).

The “Help is Here Express” bus is a way for individuals to learn more about the assistance program. The bus is equipped with computers and phones to help facilitate instant contact with the PPA. A computer database “matches” the person to specific pharmaceutical companies based on the individual’s responses to questions such as:

• What medications are you taking?
• What is your age?
• What is your yearly household income?
• How many people are in your household?
• Are you eligible for prescription drug coverage for your medications?

The program is sponsored by America’s pharmaceutical research companies working with doctors, pharmacists, health care providers and community groups.

Each patient assistance program available through the PPA has its own eligibility criteria.
