Congratulations to Catherine Robichaux, Ph.D, R.N., C.C.R.N., assistant professor of acute care nursing, for receiving the Southern Nursing Research Society’s (SNRS) Small Grants Award.
Dr. Robichaux was honored with the $2,000 award at the SNRS conference that took place earlier this month in Memphis, Tenn. The award supports and promotes new scientists in initiating a research program.
She received the award for her study “The Practice of Certified, Expert Neonatal and Pediatric Nurses in Situations of Prognostic Conflict at the End of Life, ” a replication study with pediatric and neonatal nurses.
“The purpose of the study is to explore what these nurses do when they believe aggressive interventions are no longer warranted for a patient,” Dr. Robichaux said. “It is anticipated that the findings will expand on similar research conducted with expert nurses in adult intensive care units. The overall goal is to develop a teaching module on expert nursing practice in end-of-life care in the intensive care unit.”
SNRS was founded in 1986 and in 1987, it was declared an independent organization. Fourteen states are included in the society region: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and has expanded to include the Caribbean, Latin America and the Bahamas.
