The Health Science Center’s continuing medical education and nursing continuing education programs are collaborating with the Center for Violence Prevention and Our Lady of the Lake University to provide a conference focusing on youth violence. The Sixth Annual State of the Knowledge Conference: Youth Violence Prevention will be held March 30 – Apr. 1 at the Historic Menger Hotel – San Antonio Riverwalk,
204 Alamo Plaza, San Antonio, TX 78205.
The two-and-a-half-day conference brings together a multidisciplinary group of experts who share research and interventions about youth violence in relationship to family, peers and school, and neighborhood and community elements. Presenters will address behavioral, socioeconomic, ethnic/racial and medical risk factors.

“Youth violence prevention is interwoven with all disciplines of the health care provider and community members,” said Rosalie Tierney-Gumaer, R.N., director of nursing continuing education. “Therefore, the diversity of the conference participants will provide an excellent environment to learn about the characteristics of youth violence and current issues with adolescent violence; and discuss prevention programs, interventions, and strategies.”
With a violence prevention and early intervention focus, the sessions provide opportunities for interaction with nationally-recognized experts, and stimulate discussion and collaboration. Participants will explore research outcomes that will improve community client outcomes.
Continuing education credit is available.
