Interested in the advancement of women and minorities on campus? Want to provide input on parking and traffic safety? Twenty-seven university wide committees currently exist at the Health Science Center – each with an important function that shapes the future of the institution.
President Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., recently announced a call to register for participation in Health Science Center standing committees during fiscal year 2007.
“Serving on these committees is another way to demonstrate service to the university,” Dr. Cigarroa said. “It is also one important factor that is considered in the faculty promotion and tenure process.”
The Health Science Center’s Committee on Committees (COC) – one of the 27 committees that convene to help develop the Health Science Center – is offering a Web-enabled opportunity for all full-time faculty members to register to participate on the standing committees.
The electronic system provides a confirmation notice after the individual submits responses to the questionnaire. It forwards the responses to the appropriate COC representatives and triggers a message to the chair of the employee’s department, requesting the departmental chair’s support. The chair’s response will be copied to the individual when it is automatically sent to the COC representatives.
Among many things, the COC is responsible for filling the vacancies on standing committees, after approval from the president. It is also charged with communicating information and suggestions between each committee and Dr. Cigarroa.

The deadline for the Interest Questionnaire submission is Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006.“Each school has two representatives on the Committee on Committees, and I urge faculty members with questions about any committees to contact their representative,” said Pamela Larsen, Ph.D., chair of the COC. “If your representative contacts you, please be open to requests to serve on a particular committee.”
