The division of educational research and development (ERD), with the help of a grant from the National Institutes of Health, is sponsoring two different faculty development workshops on Wednesday, March 29.

From noon to 1 p.m. in Room 1.206 in the School of Nursing, Thomas Landefeld, Ph.D., director of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences-funded MARC undergraduate student training in academic (U*STAR), will discuss “Leaks in the Pipeline: Do Faculty Mend Them or Create Them?” The focus is on the role faculty play in the pipeline of under representative minorities from pre-college to professor or professional. He will address why some programs are more successful than others and ways for successfully recruiting minority faculty.

To register, click on: erdweb.uthscsa.edu/register/prog.asp?Prog=113.

That evening, Dr. Landefeld will address “Minority Scientists: Where are they? Should we care?” from 6 to 7 p.m. in Room 1.463 in the School of Nursing.

This presentation is designed to provide a realistic perspective of the current status of minorities in the sciences, the reasons for this status and actual methods to deal effectively with the problem of under representation.

To register, click on: erdweb.uthscsa.edu/register/prog.asp?Prog=112.
The deadline to register for both workshops is March 24.

Faculty members who attend the faculty development workshops will receive a certificate of completion.
