Health Science Center employees and community leaders joined President Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., last week to welcome William L. Henrich, M.D., M.A.C.P., dean of the Health Science Center’s Medical School and vice president for medical affairs, and his wife, Mary, to the Health Science Center.

Two receptions were held in honor of Dr. Henrich’s arrival. Several faculty, staff and students attended a Tuesday evening ceremony to meet the new dean and offer him a warm welcome. Dr. Cigarroa and his wife, Graciela, also welcomed hundreds of community leaders Wednesday to the Health Science Center where everyone was able to celebrate Dr. Henrich’s arrival.

“I truly believe that we have the best medical dean that the nation has to offer,” Dr. Cigarroa said. “He is valued for his honesty and his integrity, and I am delighted that he’ll be leading our already-advancing Medical School.”

Dr. Cigarroa presented a bouquet of yellow roses to Mary Henrich to welcome her to the Health Science Center family, as well as the San Antonio and South Texas/Border Region.

“It is an absolute thrill to be here,” Dr. Henrich said. “I pledge to do all that I can to make our Medical School even more prestigious than it already is.”

A native Texan, Dr. Henrich thanked his wife, the medical dean’s office and Thomas Mayes, M.D., M.B.A., chair of pediatrics and former interim dean of the Medical School, for their continuous support and for helping him to make a smooth transition into his new position.

“There are many prospects for improvement and I’m delighted to be able to play a role in that,” Dr. Henrich said.
