The office of human resources invites faculty and staff to the first annual Financial Planning and Retirement Fair, which human resources will host on April 18. Four different sessions will be held throughout the day to assist employees in the areas of financial planning and retirement. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
“This fair is the first of a number of similar initiatives that the office of human resources has planned,” said Brett Morris, assistant vice president for human resources. “Such programs are vitally important to our employees. It’s difficult to make sound financial decisions concerning retirement without the proper information. It is our responsibility to provide opportunities to increase employees’ level of knowledge and awareness.”
Al DiCristofaro, a financial planner with more than 30 years of experience, will present a retirement overview from 10 to 10:50 a.m. in the Pestana Lecture Hall, Room 3.102B. He will focus on using Social Security benefits and Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) retirement funds as the starting point for a successful retirement.
Oscar Garcia, of the Social Security Administration, will provide an overview of Social Security benefits in back-to-back sessions from 11 to 11:50 a.m., and again from noon to 12:50 p.m. Both sessions are the same and will be held in Pestana Lecture Hall, Room 3.102B.
A representative from the TRS will speak from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. about important aspects of TRS options and benefits. This presentation will be held in the central campus auditorium.
Two future events are planned that will focus on employees within five years of retirement, as well as the Optional Retirement Program.
