What is tech transfer? “It is the process of transferring scientific findings from one organization to another for the purpose of further development and commercialization.” That is what H. Randall Goldsmith, Ph.D., assistant vice president for technology transfer and economic development, discussed when he presented at the third Town Hall meeting, initiated by the office of the vice president for research.
If you were unable to attend the meeting, online footage is available to view the presentation, which was given by Dr. Goldsmith and Alan Dean, director of the office of technology ventures. Dr. Goldsmith discussed the resources available through the office of technology ventures during his presentation called “Moving Inventions to Market: An Overview of the Office of Technology Ventures.”
Key topics included:
1. The office is responsible for transferring Health Science Center technology to the market.
2. Disclosure of federally funded discoveries is a responsibility of our researchers.
3. The office assisted in creating 10 new companies based upon our technology.
4. The Health Science Center, researchers and departments have received more than $8 million in revenue distributions.
“Our mission is aligned with the Health Science Center’s. We want the Health Science Center to reach its full potential as a financial and humanitarian benefactor,” Dean said. “We want to be recognized as the leading educational institution, a technology generator and an economic force in the community.”
