Did you know that the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Statistics reported that in a 14-year period, more than 2.3 million women reported sexual assaults in the United States? Seventy-one percent of these victims avoided being raped by taking self-defense protective measures.

The Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) class that the Health Science Center offers is something you won’t want to miss. R.A.D is a program designed to help women overcome the effects of sexual harassment and sexual violence by teaching assertiveness, awareness, risk reduction, risk recognition, avoidance and physical defense strategies. The course includes lecture, discussion and self-defense techniques suitable for women of all ages and abilities.

R.A.D. systems instructors honor each others’ teachings, allowing each of them to give every trained participant a lifetime return and practice invitation anywhere there is a R.A.D. program being offered.

The Health Science Center’s R.A.D. course will take place at the following dates and times.

Dates: June 13-15
Time: 5:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Cost: $10

To register, contact Cpl. Karen Tucker of university police at 562-6065.
