Thirty-eight physicians from the Lower Rio Grande Valley recently completed a 12-week course designed to increase an understanding of teaching concepts and adult learning. The course was offered at the Medical Education Division of the Health Science Center’s Regional Academic Health Center (RAHC).
The Master Teacher Course was developed to support the educational efforts of the many community physicians who make up the RAHC faculty. The class mostly was composed of these volunteer RAHC faculty members. The course was modeled after a teaching excellence course offered at the Health Science Center in San Antonio and a master teacher course conducted at the Texas A&M University System Health Science Center College of Medicine.
The course was a joint effort between the RAHC and the Health Science Center’s Division of Educational Research and Development.
