Member of Parliament visits the Health Science Center

Jessica Morden, member of Parliament who represents Newport East in the southeastern part of Wales, visited the department of psychiatry’s Behavioral Wellness (BeWell) Center on June 6 as part of a several-day trip to San Antonio. MP Morden was briefed by Christopher Wallace, M.D. (right), medical director of the BeWell Center, and John Roache, Ph.D. (left), research director of the Center, on U.S. responses to addiction problems in young people and the work of research centers such as the BeWell Center. Discussion topics included environmental and genetic causes of addiction in the young, medications for alcoholism, social attitudes about treatment programs, and methamphetamine abuse.
