Although there was a threat of rain, it didn’t stop the annual Health Science Center Picnic from, once again, being a great success. More than 2,200 faculty, staff and students enjoyed Bill Miller Bar-B-Q*, and were entertained by DJ Ernest Calderon and the Body Language Dancers, Friday, July 7. The picnic was sponsored by the Special Events Council (SEC) and the office of the president.
With more than 60 cakes and pies donated, the Cake Walk game was again one of the crowd’s favorite events. And in the hot summer temperatures, everyone was able to enjoy Blue Bell Ice Cream.
The SEC, office of the president and the Health Science Center community sincerely thank the guest vendors for participating in and donating to the event.

A huge thank you to Robert Ross, executive housekeeper, and his crew for setting up and breaking down the tables and chairs – and, most of all, for leaving the courtyard and auditorium foyer spotless just a few hours after the annual picnic!
The Special Events Council would also like to thank the many volunteers and cake donors for helping make this year’s picnic a great success. In addition, the SEC thanks the president’s office for its support.
Mary Yanes, chair of the SEC, also thanks the members of the council: Becky Bloodworth, Veronica Cortes, Loretta Edwards, Mike Galan, Marcia Isaacs, Eileen Kleffner, Sigrid Long, Abel Mendez, Ulysses Morse, Angela Robinson, Janice Smith and Anna Uriegas for giving of time and talents!
And the entire Health Science Center community extends a huge thank you to Yanes, whose constant work and endeavors always result in excellent outcomes for our institution!
